Kamloops 2011 Western Canada Summer Games

July 14, 2010

Kamloops, BC – ViewTeam, a new state-of-the-art event management software will be launched on August 10 at the One Year to Go countdown celebration for the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games.

Doug Smith, General Manager of the 2011 Games explains why the decision to purchase the ViewTeam program; “ The ViewTeam program has been used at the past 2 Western Canada Games as well as numerous other major sporting events with positive results. We felt this software had a proven track record and a review of the program’s capabilities determined it was just what we need in order to efficiently manage our Games.”

ViewTeam provides on-line registration for anyone involved in the Games, volunteer management, sport entries, results, accommodation and arrival/departure management, and accreditation. The system has been successfully used on over 50 events throughout North America. The software has been designed specifically for international sporting events by ViewPoint Technologies, a Victoria based software Development Company.

Vincent Lafontaine, Sport Coordinator for the Games confirms that the software will make the registration process seamless and reduce processing time drastically. “With an event of this magnitude, where you are registering and accrediting over 2,500 volunteers and dealing with thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, VIPs and so on, you need to have a system that is easily accessible and simple to use. After seeing the program I am confident we have that”.

The 2011 Western Canada Summer Games will be the first of many City events to use ViewTeam as it will be donated to the City to be used in future events after the Games are over. This in itself is a huge acquisition as the City will inherit a database of 2,500 volunteers. The City recognizes the value in its volunteer resource and plans are underway to provide ongoing recognition and benefits to the volunteer community.

For a firsthand look at ViewTeam you are encouraged to join in the first BIG event celebrating the 2011 Games; the One Year to Go countdown at Hillside Stadium on Tuesday, August 10 starting at 11:00 am. There will be many fun things to do and great prizes for the whole family, including a chance to win a weekend at Sun Peaks Resort. The City will be hosting a free BBQ. There will be balloons, face painting and treats for the kids, live music by the Blues Jumpers and the chance to meet the new Games Mascots and hear the Games song written and performed by Kamloops’ own Kate Morgan.
